Capital Region high schoolers show off skills in robotics, STEM

ALBANY -- High schoolers from around the area are showing off their skills in robotics and STEM.

The Albany Academies hosted the fourth annual First Tech Challenge Tournament.

Assem. Angelo Santabarbara, who worked as a civil engineer for more than 15 years, says these types of tournaments are crucial for young minds.

“It's not only about engineering,” Santabarbara said. “But it's about much, much more. Kids are learning much beyond the field of engineering because they're learning to work with each other and solve problems. And a lot of these solutions they come up with are real world solutions to real world problems. It's just amazing.”

The winners of Saturday’s tournament will compete in the regional championships at Pace University next month.
