Pittsfield powers up its second solar array

PITTSFIELD, Mass. - The city of Pittsfield teamed up with the renewable energy company, Ameresco, Friday to turn on the switch for the city's second solar power array.

This one is at the former landfill, off East Street.

"Not only are we reducing the city's carbon footprint, but we're also realizing some really serious economic benefit in the form of a 20-year agreement with Ameresco, the developer, which will realize us almost $2.5 million over the life of the 20-year project," explained Jim McGrath, Open Space Manager.

Ameresco operates similar solar setups in Lenox and Stockbridge in Berkshire County.
