ALBANY -- A workshop at UAlbany wants to encourage more girls to get involved in science, technology, engineering and math.

An event Saturday let girls take part in workshops of their choice, including how STEM is involved in art, food, and even fashion.

Organizers say there's been a recent drop in the number of women graduating with computer science and engineering degrees.

“We're really hoping to boost the number of girls who decide they do want to pursue computer science and engineering in the future,” said Dr. Stephanie Conklin. “By having events like these, we're hoping to instill some ideas, and give girls an opportunity to explore engineering when they're younger, so hopefully they'll pursue those all throughout college.”

The event was free and open to girls in grades 4-8. It was sponsored by the New York State Master Teacher program at UAlbany.
