Police: Troy man had illegal gun in apartment building

A Troy man was arrested after police received a report of a person loading a handgun in an apartment building.

Troy Police responded to a building on 5^th Avenue near Hutton Street around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25., after a security officer reported seeing someone with a gun in the laundry area.

Police secured the area and reviewed the video. The suspect, 43-year-old Terry J. Bennett, was stopped as he tried to leave. He did not live in the apartment building, investigators said.

Bennett is accused of having the gun illegally. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, having a defaced weapon and burglary. Bennett was arraigned and sent to Rensselaer County Jail.
