ALBANY -- "It's always a meet and greet and people are excited to see each other and always go out together and this year I know a lot of the other businesses are really struggling and having a very hard time," Tess Collins said, McGearys Pub Owner.

Tess Collins considers herself one of the lucky ones- she's served three generations of customers and been a familiar face to so many here at McGeary's for a little over ten years.

"We are staying open for Thanksgiving and we are open tonight because so many people don't have families downtown Albany a lot of people are here for business."

She says she's witnessed firsthand how the pandemic has brought out so much kindness and camaraderie in people.

"Some of my customers came in, just several groups of people that bought free dinners so I could give them out to people in the neighborhood, so there's been a whole pay it forward going on here tonight," Collins added.

On a night when bars and restaurants would otherwise be buzzing with holiday cheer, Collins explained, "If we want things to change we have to be part of the change."

Tess is hoping if people feel sick, they do stay home and says she'll support them in that decision.

"I'm doing a one minute, one hour, one day thing here. I know that we'll be ok and I'm staying positive that way. I have to make decisions that are best for thirty people," referring to her staff.

Tess says she is thankful for her loyal customers, her business partner and for the younger generation that have been positive and kind to Albany's elderly community.
