The ongoing violence in the city of Albany is taking a toll on the community. A grief counselor says the recent gun violence can have a real and lasting effect on local families.

Lisa Good is the founder of Urban Grief. That's a community organization that responds in the aftermath of shootings. Her organization provides counseling for survivors of violence.

Albany police responded to a couple shootings just days a part last week. Good says when there are back-to-back shootings it adds to the cumulative grief of the community. She says people don't get to recover from one shooting before another. She says the stress from the shootings can impact a person’s health.

"When you are under so much stress and duress from the trauma and the grief, your body carries that weight and a lot of times, so many people in our community have other conditions the stress from this can exacerbate it," said Good.

Good encourages people to pay attention to their bodies and seek help if need be. To learn more about Urban Grief, visit their website: http://urbangrief.org/
