Majority of new Albany County coronavirus cases tied to UAlbany students

Albany County is reporting 23 new cases of coronavirus.

This marks the fourth day in a row the county has reported more than 20 positive cases.

Most of the new cases, 17, are once again connected to UAlbany.

County Executive Dan McCoy says there are now 128 active cases in the county.

"We need to reverse this trend before the school is forced to shut down and this outbreak spreads beyond the campus and student housing and into the larger Albany County and Capital Region communities," said County Executive McCoy in a statement. "Our Department of Health is working closely with university officials to identify and isolate positive cases and take preventative measures with hopes the fall semester can finish the way it started."
