ALBANY -- Officer Sadaka Kitonyi has always been a force of positivity.
"Just because we think that we may have it bad and we're going through troubling times, there are people out there that has it worse than us right now," Kitonyi explained.
He shares his optimism on his YouTube page, GoodCop NoDonut.
It's where you'll find body cam footage like this of good deeds he and fellow officers do for the community.
"We see a lot of potential in the neighborhoods and communities here and it's all about getting the right people involved to bring out that full potential to everybody," Kitonyi said.
His small acts of kindness caught the attention of a friend from college, South Troy native, Chef Lawrence Lowe.
"There was people in the neighborhood that we knew that my mom was friends with and they would be kind enough to help us during the holidays," Lowe said.
The duo founded the 'Caring Chefs & Community Cops' initiative to bring warm meals to twenty families this Thanksgiving.
Because of COVID-19 all the ingredients are packaged individually, with only the turkey, gravy and pumpkin pie cooked by the chef.
"If you can do this, it doesn't take much to put a smile on somebody's face- a hot meal, I'd like to do more," Lowe said.
At the start of 2020, Officer Kitonyi was hoping to help different Albany neighborhoods every month.
But the pandemic put that plan on pause.
"We're giving love and we're going to receive love and trust in the community through giving, and just that meal," Albany Police Department Officer Steve Silver added.
Other officers and residents are donating their time and money to help feed even more families next month.
'Tis the season of giving, after all.
"We're hoping that in the near future it just continues to get bigger and bigger and we can hit maybe multiple spots and multiple times within the city of Albany and hopefully within the entire Capital Region, eventually," Kitonyi said.
The meals will be handed out Wednesday morning in the West Hill neighborhood at the Victory Garden.
If you're interested in donating money for next month's meals, you can find Chef Lowe on Venmo @Lawrence-John-3.
