Albany vigil marks one year since US Capitol riot

ALBANY – Flags on state buildings were lowered to half-staff to honor those who defended the US Capitol during the riot one year ago.
Vigils were held around the country on Thursday to remind us that voters should decide the outcome of elections.

That included a vigil in Albany.

This event happened at the same time as a vigil in Glens Falls, and it’s part of more than 300 events around the country to mark the anniversary.

This vigil was organized by Capital Region Mothers Out Front, a climate-focused group — also the non-partisan League of Women Voters of Albany and Progressive Schenectady.

Organizers say they’re urging action.

They want legislation passed to make voting easier and in their words, protect fair elections. They’re speaking out against laws they say have made it harder to vote, passed following the 2020 election under the pretenses that the election was tampered with.
