ALBANY – It was another night of chaos in Albany after what was a peaceful protest for hours took a different turn when a few in the crowd decided to set off fireworks.
Albany police say there were fireworks thrown at them. So they responded with tear gas.
One man says a lot of this is not coming from people in Arbor Hill or downtown Albany.
“They come and they look like hippie kids. They look like hippie kids from Lark Street. They say they are from Colonie. They say they are from Cohoes. They say they are from different areas to gain our trust. We took a book-bag off one kid that had a book-full of flares. I gave it to police,” the man said.
Many protesters said they really just wanted to speak with Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins. The chief did come out and speak with them and eventually took a knee with him. However, some protesters said it just took too long.
They really wanted police officers to take a knee with them, acknowledge them, and talk with them, which they did. However, they said they wish they would have acknowledged them a little more.
