Paul Tonko appears to be heading back to Washington to represent New York's 20th congressional district. The Democrat has a 13-point lead over Republican challenger Liz Joy.
With 161,742 votes so far, Tonko is winning 56% to 43%. That's with 99% of the precincts reporting.
Any absentee ballots that were postmarked by midnight on election night will be part of the official count.
Tonko is currently serving his sixth-term in Congress. In his previous four elections, he has never garnered less than 61% of the vote.
New York's 20th backed Hillary Clinton for president in 2016. Before that, the district supported Barack Obama twice by large margins.
