ALBANY - Albany Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy says she is still rattled and still disgusted by what she saw at the U.S. Capitol last week. So much so, she says there's no way she couldn't have written a letter to Congress urging the immediate removal of President Donald Trump from office.

More than 75 Democratic colleagues agree with her.

"We take and oath to support the Constitution," Fahy begins, "This is about showing the world that this kind of insurrection, the actions are unacceptable at every level."

Fahy reiterates she believes what happened on January 6th was so serious, people need to be on the record.

Meanwhile, Cohoes Assemblyman John McDonald, a fellow Democrat, desided not to sign the letter.

"That letter doesn't really get to what the issue is that we have been facing here in New York or what we will be facing as we go through the budget process," McDonald says.

McDonald points out signing the letter won't help New York State close a multi-billion dollar budget gap. Besides that, he believes his constituents are more concerned with kitchen table issues.

"It doesn't help put food on the table, it doesn't help improve the education system, and it doesn't help with those who are struggling with addiciton," he stated.

Fahy doesn't disagree with those concerns, nor is she looking forward to a long drawn out process.

"I don't want to spend the next three months hearing about an impeachment," Fahy says, "I want to hear about (President-elect Joe Biden's) hundred day agenda. We all know that we have an incoming president with a tremendous work load."

"I don't bemoan anybody who wrote or signed onto that letter," McDonald says, "They're listening to their constituents and I'm listening to mine.

Rotterdam Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, also a Democrat, did not sign the letter either.
