COHOES - There was a town hall meeting Tuesday night concerning the Norlite Plant in Cohoes.
New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation commissioner did not take part in it. A spokesman told NewsChannel 13 the commissioner had a conflict on his schedule.
This was just the latest in a series of discussions on a bill to ban the burning of firefighting foam at the plant in Cohoes due to concerns of possible toxic chemicals being released.
State lawmakers passed a bill back in June. However, the governor has not signed it.
DEC did not comment on the legislation, but released a statement saying in part:
"We remain committed to working closely with community residents and state and local elected officials in and around this community to ensure ongoing transparency regarding our efforts to protect public health and the environment.
