Albany County Executive Dan McCoy is talking about Phase 4.
The Capital Region is expected to enter that phase of re-opening on Wednesday. It includes higher education, low-risk outdoor, and indoor arts, as well as media production. It doesn't include malls, gyms, and movie theaters, as originally thought.
McCoy says he's been getting a lot of questions from residents about malls. The governor said Monday he will make it mandatory that malls have air filtration systems that can filter out coronavirus.
"In order for the malls to re-open, they want them to have a high-efficiency particle air filter, which has been shown to help reduce the presence of the COVID-19 in the air, so that's above my pay grade, and I have no problem saying that. The other issue is that the questions I’ve received from a lot of angry people - Walmart and Target, do they have that? How are they open? How are the grocery stores open? Do they have these air filters? I don't know. I don't know, but that's what they're requiring, so that's something that we have to address going forward to get these malls open, because we want to get them open and get people back to work," McCoy said.
McCoy is one of 12 members of the Regional Control Room for the Capital Region. That's the governor's team to guide re-opening.
Now gyms across the country are filing suit to reopen.
