COHOES - Police are investigating a homicide that began as a shooting Tuesday afternoon. They've identified the man killed in the shooting as Tyshawn Daniels, 18, of Cohoes.

"Manpower is always crucial in these investigations and with the death of a human being, you want to solve it and solve it properly,” Acting Police Chief Tom Ross said.

Ross said around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday someone reported hearing multiple gun shots in the area of Lansing and Schuyler Streets.

A woman who lives nearby told NewsChannel 13 she heard five to eight shots. She ran outside to see what was going on. That's when she spotted the Daniels lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds.

She said he was conscious and talking, even asking about his injuries while they waited for the ambulance to arrive.

Daniels was taken to Albany Medical Center where he died.

Evidence technicians were on scene taking photos and placing markers on the sidewalk, in the road and near several parked cars, one of which had a flat tire. It's unclear if that happened in the shooting.

"Well the car is certainly in question and we are in pursuit of those leads them to find out exactly who was in the car and who else was involved,” Ross said.

Ross said if a vehicle or vehicles were involved, that would likely mean police are searching for multiple suspects, though none have been named yet.

He was also asked if this shooting could be related to the outbreak in violence we're seeing in the cities across the Capital Region.

"Any shooting certainly is taken seriously and we'll be in contact with other departments especially with Albany you know to see if there's some correlation, but we're not at that point,” Ross said.

Though investigators are still working to piece together what happened, Ross said with the help of state police, they'll find whoever is responsible.

"I am confident that we will have a successful conclusion,” Ross said.
