Albany police now say the victim of a shooting Wednesday has died.
The man, who is in his 30s, was one of three people shot in the city on Wednesday during two separate broad daylight incidents.
The deadly shooting happened in the area of Morton and South Pearl Street around 1:30 p.m. That's right near the Mission and the police station.
Officers believe a U-Haul truck and another vehicle were involved in a chase. The victim was shot in the torso.
Then around 2:20 p.m., officers say shots were being fired from inside a car at First and Quail streets. A woman driving in the area at the time was hit in the neck. She was taken to the hospital and at last check was in serious condition.
A second victim was shot in the arm. Police say he walked into the emergency room on his own.
With the four shot Wednesday, the total number of people shot in Albany this month is 33.
The chief was out at the first two scenes Wednesday afternoon. With the increase in gun violence we're seeing in the city, he is calling for reinforcements to help turn things back around.
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan released the following statement:
"I am outraged to learn of two more instances of gun violence occurring in the City of Albany. One shooting is too many, and the trend that we are experiencing is unacceptable and unbearable. Our residents deserve better, and our city deserves better.
Given the recent increase in violence, residents can expect to see an enhanced law enforcement presence in our city for the foreseeable future – including both members of the New York State Police and the Albany County Sheriff's Department.
The safety of our residents' is our top priority and we remain committed to the strategies we know are effective at disrupting violence.
Anyone with information regarding any of the recent violence is asked to call the Albany Detective Division at 518-462-8039. 100% anonymous tips may also be submitted online at Capital Region Crime Stoppers at www.capitalregioncrimestoppers.com or by downloading the free P3 Tips mobile app."
