Watervliet police officer honored for saving elderly woman from fire

WATERVLIET - A Watervliet police officer is being honored for saving the life of an elderly woman during a house fire.

Fire broke out at a home on Seventh Avenue on November 20, where the resident was trapped.

Officer Thomas Szczepanski was the first emergency worker on the scene to enter the building.

Officer Szczepanski was recognized Wednesday for his heroic efforts.

The officer says he is honored and adds everyone in the police department would have done the same thing.
