A bill sponsored by local Congressman Paul Tonko would provide schools with grants and other support from the National Science Foundation.

Tonko says he was inspired by Nathan Wang, a former Shaker High Student now studying biomedical engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

"Whether or not learning AI will push you towards a specific field, I don't know, but I do know for certain that it will definitely inspire more people into STEM," said Wang.

Tonko's legislation is part of the National Defense Authorization Act, which passed the Senate on Friday, but President Trump may veto it.
