MiSci in Schenectady is more than a children's science museum. It houses early inventions made in Schenectady in the 19th century.

One of Thomas Edison's first inventions will now be preserved in the Library of Congress.

Edison invented the phonograph in 1877.  A year later, he recorded music on tin foil for a St. Louis businessman.

This tin foil recording from 1878 is the oldest playable recording of music in America.

Only a handful of recordings are chosen each year for preservation.

The song on the recording was "Mary Had a Little Lamb."

The actual tin foil will remain at MiSci along with many other inventions from Edison, Steinmetz and other inventors.
