A new report out this month shows Capital Region scientists recorded more than 1,400 new patents on inventions last year. That was twice as many patents filed in our region than the rest of New York state.

We are second only to California in high-tech innovation.

The partnership between colleges and business is a key factor in that success.

The report out by Center for Economic Growth shows the semi-conductor business in the Capital Region is on a roll.

The number of new invention patents increased by 8% last year.

Dr. Shadi Shahedipour-Sandvik says we are doing research in all areas surrounding chip production and design.

She says it produces a climate of innovation.

Learn more about that and the challenges she says we face by watching the video.
