Should internet companies be regulated by the Public Service Commission in the same way the electric companies are regulated? A senator from Buffalo and an assemblywoman from Queens both say they should.

The two held an event at the state Capitol Monday to introduce a bill to regulate the internet companies.

If passed, the PSC would be tasked with setting standards for service, reliability, and consumer protection for your internet service. They would also have to give you broadband no matter where you live.

This year’s state budget provides $1 million to study where broadband access is needed, and where the reliability is poor.
