BRUNSWICK - Lisa Symington, the new chief of the Mountain View Fire Company in Brunswick, says Wednesday's inauguration is a profound example that women can do anything.

She should know, because she's been fighting fires since she was a teenager.

Symington thanks a little friendly competition for helping her discover a profession she's come to love.

The training was rigorous, but she says she learned to persevere.

Her toughness earned her the title "warrior" and she uses that title in her service to others.

She rose in the ranks of the volunteer company and last month, she was named the first female chief in the fire department. It's the first female fire chief in one of the town's five fire departments.

Learn about what she says she finds rewarding about the job by watching the video of Elaine Houston's story.
