ALBANY - At PWR Training Facility in Albany, trainer Brittany Burnham puts members through their paces, but always manages to mix compassion with the cardio.
She constantly reminds members they have it in them to succeed and win at anything they want.
This philosophy of inspiring others was developed when she was a coach at an inner-city school for girls in Albany. It also came from some hard life experiences.
When she was a single mother, Burnham says she was in an abusive relationship, and it inspired her to help women.
However, she had to help herself first.
Burnham applied for a coach's position at a local college. She wasn't hired, but that turned into a blessing. It forced her to take the leap at owning her own gym.
The only space she could afford was her mom's backyard, but her style appealed to women, and that backyard was eventually packed. Soon her dream became a reality.
Learn about how her business has expanded beyond the backyard today, and how it's making it through the pandemic by watching the video of Elaine Houston's story.
