Newly-elected State Senator Michelle Hinchey was born into a political family, and spent time watching her dad connect with people and help them with their problems.

Now, Hinchey believes it is her time to try and meet the needs of people by making government work for the people.

Hinchey has worked for a telecoms company and as an environmental organizer, but her formative years were rooted in community service, watching her father, former New York Congressman Maurice Hinchey, work on behalf of his constituents.

Now it's her turn, and as the new state senator from the 46th District, she's happy to represent rural voters.

Learn about what she hopes to accomplish, and her hopes for bipartisanship by watching the video of Elaine Houston's story.
