ALBANY – Crystal De Bouse loved reading since she was a child. However, money wasn’t plentiful when she was growing up.

"I didn’t have, like, a ton of books growing up," she recalled. "My mom was a single parent, so most of the books that I experienced were primarily in school."

In high school, she studied graphic design and dreamed of being a model on a billboard in Times Square. However, she eventually enlisted in the Air Force and studied information technology.

After leaving the service, De Bouse earned a master’s in education from the College of Saint Rose.

The funny thing is her heart was always in writing, and during the pandemic, she returned to her first love, which is writing children’s books.

Learn about how she hopes the books help kids find their passion in life by watching the video of Elaine Houston’s story.
