ALBANY – There are new plans to bring a grocery store to a much-needed part of Albany’s South End.

It’s at 106 South Pearl Street, the site of the old McDonald’s in downtown Albany.

The African American cultural center bought the property, with the help of private investors and key government officials.

The site will be converted into a grocery store, addressing a serious lack of options for food in that neighborhood.

Supporters say they hope this will inspire more businesses to invest in Albany’s South End neighborhood.
