An area senior living community is teaming up with Girl Scouts to commemorate "National Pollinators Month."

The Spinney at Van Dyke in Delmar has a community garden – part of its lifestyle and wellness program – in which its senior residents plant flowers or fruits and vegetables.

The seniors are getting a gardening assist from Girl Scout Troop 1106.

The mostly 5th graders help some of the residents, especially those with mobility issues, get their gardens started.

This year, one of the residents broke her arm just before the gardens opened for the season, but the Girl Scouts were there to lend a helping hand.

The girls also planted two beds of wildflowers for all of the residents at The Spinney at Van Dyke to enjoy.

The scouts are working towards their Bronze Badge.
