A state employee from Troy is accused of claiming unemployment while working for a state agency.

The Attorney General’s Office says Johnny Neal filed false documents with the state to claim $17,000 in unemployment benefits – even though he was a supervisor at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.

The attorney general says Neal also improperly accessed confidential taxpayer information for family and friends to help them with their tax prep process.

Neal is now charged with grand larceny.
