New technology meant to help curb catalytic converter thefts

There’s a new initiative to address an increase in catalytic converter thefts. The DMV says there’s a 200% increase in these thefts.
Now there is a new way for police to track stolen catalytic converters and to stop more crimes like this from happening. It involves a special kit that can etch an identification on the catalytic converters.
According to the DMV, the street value of a catalytic converter is roughly $200 to $500 and the damages reportedly cost thousands of dollars to repair.
