The Saratoga Springs City Council candidate accused of altering petitions appeared in court on Thursday.

Republican Samantha Guerra pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor charges in Saratoga Springs City Court on Thursday.

Earlier this week, Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen, who is also a Republican, asked for a special prosecutor to handle the case.

Heggen is asking that Schenectady County District Attorney Bob Carney prosecute the case.
