A dog in Ulster County is recovering after being trapped for five days with no food or water.
State Parks says the dog, 12-year-old Liza, was hiking with a woman in Ulster County last Thursday, and fell into a narrow crevice. Rescuers could hear Liza barking, and used cameras to see her, but couldn’t get to her.
That changed Tuesday when rescue equipment was finally able to reach the dog. A rescuer used a hot dog to attract her to it, and another one lifted the dog to safety, as several others helped.
SPCA officials say the dog had been licking the damp walls of the crevice, which likely helped it survive.
Park visitors are reminded to keep their dogs on leashes of six feet or less at all times.
