Union Hockey Coach Rick Bennett resigns
Union College Head Men’s Ice Hockey Coach Rick Bennett has resigned effective immediately.
Bennett joined the Union hockey program 17 years ago.
He had been on administrative leave since Jan. 20, as the school investigated what they say was "an allegation about his coaching style and practices."
"This resolution is the best path forward for both Coach Bennett and our men’s hockey program. Our number one priority is to fully support our student-athletes," Union College Athletic Director Jim McLaughlin said in a statement.
"I arrived at this decision because I felt it is in the best interest of Union College hockey. That has always been at the forefront of my thoughts," Bennett said in a statement. "I wish the program all the best this season and in the future."
