Two people dead in Bennington after car gets wedged under farming vehicle

BENNINGTON, Vt. - Police in Bennington, Vermont are investigating a deadly crash after a car crashed into a large farming vehicle and got wedged underneath.

It happened around 6:45 Thursday evening in the area of West Road, also known as Route 9.

Police say a 29-year-old man was driving, when a car crashed into the rear of it.

They say the driver then kept going with the car wedged underneath. He told police he thought he had blown a tire and didn't see the car underneath his vehicle until he pulled into the next field to check on it.

Charles Schichtl, 85, and Lorraine Schichtl, 82, of Petersburg were inside the car. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
