You know him as the most interesting man in the world. He's the dapper, bearded, life of every party man who lives vicariously through himself. For almost 10 years, Jonathan Goldsmith was the face of Dos Equis beer.
"Been around a little bit that's for sure," said Goldsmith.
Goldmsith lives in Manchester, Vermont. What many people don't know is he has always been active in children's charities. Now he's hoping his television success can help raise thousands of dollars for Make-A-Wish Vermont.
"What better thing can we do than to provide these dream things for these children that are going through a rough time?" said Goldsmith.
Now in its fifth year, Goldsmith serves as host and judge of the Vermont Beardies Competition. The contest to find Vermont's best beard has raised $250,000.00 since it was first launched.
Jamie Hathaway is the President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Vermont and the contests mastermind. He's also one of Goldsmith's good friends.
"Make-A-Wish isn't about getting something. It's about becoming a part of something and knowing there's a network of support around you," said Hathaway.
Hathaway says this year donations are needed more than ever. Revenues are down a quarter of a million dollars due to the pandemic, so they're hoping more beards will join in the fun.
"This is one of the easiest contests ever. All you do is you don't shave. You take a selfie. You post it on the internet, and you ask your friends to support you to help raise money for Make-A-Wish," said Hathaway.
Small beards, long beards, even fake beards. Any beard anywhere can enter.
If the most interesting man in the world asks you to turn your whiskers into wishes, maybe you should listen.
"This work is very, very important. It's very gratifying to me and for the other people that participate in it. It's just a wonderful special charity," said Goldsmith.
