The town of Bennington has agreed to pay Kiah Morris and her family $137,000, and issue them a public apology.

Morris was the only black woman in the Vermont State Legislature.

She resigned in 2018 after being the target of what she said were racial threats and other harassment.

She complained to the Human Rights Commission that the Bennington Police Department didn't adequately investigate the threats.

The Morris Family later moved out of Bennington.

According to the Bennington Banner, the Town Select Board unanimously approved the settlement after meeting in executive session Monday night.
