PITTSFIELD, Mass. - A man has been hit and killed by a train in Pittsfield.

Pittsfield police say 54-year-old Rodney Sumner died after being hit by a train Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators believe he was observing nearby construction and unable to get out of the path of the train.

Sumner was not believed to have been distracted or impaired.

Police are investigating the death as accidental.
