The family of the US Capitol officer who died in last week’s attack released a statement about his passing.
Billy Evans was originally from North Adams in Berkshire County. According to our NBC affiliate in Springfield, his family says his death has “left a gaping void” in their lives “that will never be filled.”
They go on to say Evans made friends with everyone he met and was proud to be a U.S. Capitol Police officer.
Evans was with Capitol Police for 18 years. He was killed guarding the U.S. Capitol building on April 2, when a man rammed a car into a barricade.
Officers lined the route as a procession for Evans drove by paying tribute to their fallen colleague.
