A set of foster parents from Adams, Massachusetts has been arraigned on manslaughter charges after a 10-month-old baby in their care died of pneumonia.

Matthew and Cassandra Tucker, both 37, plead not guilty Thursday to involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment involving a child.

The Berkshire County District Attorney says the child developed pneumonia while in the Tuckers' care, and died in February 2020 after the Tuckers' failed to seek medical help.

One of the Tuckers' attorneys tells NewsChannel 13 she expects her clients to be vindicated, and is calling for a full apology from the district attorney.

The Tuckers, according to their attorney, have cared for at least 20 foster children in recent years without incident.

The little 10-month old boy was placed in their care back in December 2019.

After a police investigation and an autopsy was performed on the child, the grand jury indicted the pair on manslaughter and reckless endangerment charges.

The couple was arraigned Thursday in Berkshire Superior Court one at a time, and then released on recognizance.
