Johnny Velazquez gets his 1,000th win at Saratoga Race Course

Hall of fame jockey Johnny Velazquez got his 1,000th win at the Saratoga Race Course on Thursday aboard Precursory in the 8th race. The 50 year-old has been riding at the Spa since he was 18 years old and says mentor Angel Cordero Jr. had a lot to do with that. Velazquez has more than 6,400 total wins in his illustrious riding career which is still going strong. NYRA played a video tribute to Velazquez after the victory and several other jockeys joined the celebration in the winner’s circle after the race along with Johnny’s friends and family.
