AMSTERDAM - Deana Mancini went to pick up diapers for the youngest of her four children.
"And I ran up to Walmart," she said. "I'm walking through diapers and I see this massive rack with coats on it for a dollar."
She's got a good eye for a bargain and this seemed too good to pass up.
"I instantly contacted one of my school sources.I said, 'Do you know anyone who needs any coats?'" she said. "Then I posted online and my husband here he goes, 'Buy them all!'"
"I saw it and just immediately thought just get them, and we'll find somebody that needs them," said Chris Mancini.
He didn't know at first how many that would be.
"I'm thinking maybe a couple jackets," he said with a laugh. "And then she sends more pictures there were racks of dollar jackets."
Deana cleaned out the racks, getting 220 children's coats, sizes 12 months to 5T.
Then they had to decide what to do with all of them and thought let's give them away and spread some love and warmth for Valentine's Day.
Deana and Chris run the Mohawk Mills Real Estate Group. They put up a post about the giveaway. The post took off with comments and shares.
"We put the rack here at the end of our driveway and literally by Saturday probably by 2:00, I think, about 75% of them had already been picked up of the 220, which was mind-blowing," said Deana.
She says the response shows just how tough times are for many people, and they are happy to help.
They're hoping these coats will keep little ones warm.
"Or just having a new coat," said Chris. "Sometimes it's nice to have something new in your life during this time when you can't even go shopping, can't even try clothes on."
The Mancinis say it's also a good lesson to teach their children about giving.
