A group of public health leaders is proposing a national strategy for dealing with coronavirus. The dean of the UAlbany School of Public Health is among them.

Dr. David Holtgrave says they're using the blueprint of how HIV was addressed. That means focusing on social inequalities, housing, employment, and disparities facing communities of color.

The proposal also looks at steps the community, government, schools, business and the faith community can take to minimize the spread.

NewsChannel 13's Benita Zahn also talked with him about vaccine acceptance and equitable distribution.

Dr. Holtgrave points out it looks like death from coronavirus will rank number three this year, behind heart disease and cancer. He says that reinforces the need for a national strategy.

Hear more of Dr. Holtgrave's thoughts on why he thinks a national strategy is so important by watching the video.
