Siena College released a poll Tuesday on the acceptability of the COVID vaccine. It found that when it comes to African-Americans, the numbers are low. That might be explained by looking at the history between blacks and the medical profession.

Blacks have a long memory of the wrongs done to them by the medical profession, from the Tuskegee syphilis experiments to the sharing of cells belonging to Henrietta Lacks without consent, to gynecological surgery on female slaves without anesthesia.

However, for community-wide protection or herd immunity, 70% of the population needs the vaccine. Whites make up about 60%, so if African-Americans don't get the vaccine, the nation won't have herd immunity.
