Prisoners in New York can get a COVID vaccine.
Groups fighting for this celebrated this announcement, after taking it to a judge who ultimately ruled inmates should be offered the vaccine immediately.
One group called release aging people in prison argues dozens of inmates have died from COVID behind bars, and thousands have tested positive.
The governor's office says more than 19,000 staff and inmates and state correctional facilities have been vaccinated so far. That expanded to all inmates on Tuesday.
Acting Counsel to the Governor Beth Garvey says, "Our goal all along has been to implement a vaccination program that is fair and equitable, and these changes will help ensure that continues to happen."
