The FDA has approved a saliva test statewide. It's already being used in SUNY's widespread testing of students across campuses.

Now, the governor and SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras announced the go-ahead for labs to begin using the swab test, which is seen as a faster and easier test than the current nasal one.

People can administer it themselves and provide the samples, which will be processed at SUNY Upstate Medical Center’s laboratory.
