A $2 billion fund to give direct cash to excluded New York workers was recently passed as part of the state budget.
Economists and small business leaders came together to support the fund.
The Fiscal Policy Institute, a liberal think tank in Albany, estimates that 4,000 workers in our region will get help from the fund.
Each worker will get $15,000, which adds up to $29 million being spent on food, housing, and utility bills.
Local business owners say the fund helps keep their employees in the region, so they can be rehired as more businesses reopen.
