Nearly 30,000 more people tested positive for the coronavirus across New York state over the weekend, and 329 more New Yorkers with the virus died.
Currently, more than 8,700 people are in the hospital.
Over the weekend, Gov. Cuomo also announced more cases of the COVID-19 variant that was first found in the UK. In New York, it was first discovered in Saratoga Springs. A total of 18 New Yorkers have now tested positive for the variant.
As for the COVID-19 vaccine, more than 73,000 doses were given out in one day over the weekend at the state’s vaccination sites.
Gov. Cuomo says the state will receive 250,000 more doses this week, just a fraction of what is needed to vaccinate the seven million New Yorkers who are currently eligible to receive the vaccine.
Three more state vaccination sites are opening up on Monday. One is downstate, and two are in the North Country.
