Whitehall girl leads effort to help COVID patients through loneliness

A girl from Whitehall is bringing comfort to COVID patients who are hospitalized and isolated from their loved ones.

Like so many efforts during the pandemic, it all started with one person hoping to do good. This time, that person is just 12 years old.

Glens Falls Hospital was struggling with ways to help patients who couldn't have visitors.

When Mia Waters heard about the dilemma from relatives who work at the hospital, Mia decided to collect and donate activities that would help patients through their loneliness.

She asked mom to help spread the word on social media. That led to more donations from the community.

Mom, who is a teacher, saw it as a teachable moment for being able to help someone in need.

The nurse manager of the COVID unit says the puzzles, crafts, and coloring books brighten the lives of patients who are struggling in isolation.

Learn more about how fast the idea caught on by watching the video of Mark Mulholland's story.
