The nation's two largest movie theater chains, Regal Cinemas and AMC Theatres, plan to reopen this weekend. However, not in New York.

Governor Cuomo has not offered a timetable for indoor theaters. That has many people frustrated.

Movie theater owners gathered outside the Madison Theater in Albany, along with local politicians Wednesday to call on the governor to reopen movie theaters.

They said they would follow strict guidelines including installing a MERV  11 or higher air filter, reducing capacity to 50 percent, requiring masks, and having strict cleaning protocols in place.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday he's concerned about the ventilation system and people seated for a long period of time.

The governor also said he deemed movie theaters as less essential when it comes to reopening businesses.

Forty-two states have allowed theaters to reopen.

Officials say it's about doing it safely. It's also about getting the economy going again.

Hear movie theater owners and lawmakers talk more about why they say it's so important to reopen by watching the video of Emily DeVito's story.
