Rensselaer County is reporting eight new cases of the coronavirus.

The new cases bring the total number of confirmed cases in the county to more than 1,000 since the pandemic began.

One of the new cases is a 16-year-old from Brunswick, who is a student at Averill Park High School. That case is causing 52 students, two staff members, and five teachers to quarantine.

The Rensselaer County Department of Health is now reaching out to the nearly 70 people affected by this, and the district is working to disinfect areas of concern at the school.
