Tyhisha Ghaffar-Adjei learned to be of service to others from the women in her life. Her mom and aunt were nurses and activists.

As a teen, she was somewhat embarrassed when she would accompany her mom on the streets feeding people under bridges, at train stations.

However, a spirit of giving was solidified, and like her mom, this traveling nurse also fed those in need in the city and Albany, which she decided to call home.

She formed a non-profit called Guardians of Al-Fitrah.

Last year, she found the greatest need among the elderly during the pandemic.

It's not just food. They also need love.

Ghaffar-Adjei found plenty of that to also give away.

Learn about how she's doing it, and the people helping her, both by watching the video of Elaine Houston's story.
